2019 Shelby GT-S Mustang is a SIXT rental, not Hertz

Posted on

Shelby is back in the popular rental car game with the Shelby GT-S Mustang from 2019, but for once the rental-specific car is not for Hertz, a company that already rented Shelby cars in the 1960s. This model is for an international car rental company called SIXT. As a special bonus, Shelby says that this is the first supercharged Mustang to be offered for rent.

That supercharger is installed by Shelby and bumps power from the 5.0-liter V8 up to more than 600 horsepower (Shelby gets no more specific than that). It is only available with the 10-speed automatic transmission. Other improved performance aspects are improved Brembo front brakes, Ford Performance springs and stabilizer bars and a Borla cat-back exhaust. Visually the car gets an orange paint color with black stripes or a black paint color with orange stripes, matching the company colors of SIXT. It has the body kit of the Shelby GT and Shelby wheels. And on the inside there is a black and orange leather interior with orange stitching and embroidery.

Rental prices have not yet been set, but cars will initially be available in Southern California, South Florida and Las Vegas. The first 20 will arrive this summer. Although the cars will initially only be available for rental, they will be sold to the public after departure from the rental fleets. If you can't wait that long, you can get almost the same vehicle in the form of the Shelby GT, but it makes more than 700 horsepower in supercharged form. There is also a naturally aspirated version of that car with 480 hp, and both versions can be used as a coupé or convertible with a manual or automatic. The basic price for the GT is $ 61,345. The time will tell how many used GT-S models will be.
