DETROIT – The Ford Ranger returns to American dealers next month as the most fuel-saving petrol driven pickup on the market.
The two-wheel drive 2019 Ranger gets 21 mpg city / 26 highway / 23 combined, according to EPA estimates. The combined figure binds the 23 mpg of the Chevrolet Colorado diesel engine, but retrieves all other medium-sized pickups with petrol engines. The Mpg figure of the Ranger is also highest at petrol engines with medium-sized pickups.
A lead in the fuel economy, no matter how small, Ford can offer a marketing tack in what promises to be a very competitive battlefield. Ford routinely dominated the medium-sized truck market until the Ranger was dropped in 2011. The segment, now led by Toyota Tacoma and Colorado, has grown 16 percent this year and will receive more registrations from Jeep and Ram in the coming years.
The 2019 4×2 Tacoma gets 21 mpg combined, according to the EPA, while the 2019 4×2 Colorado and GMC Canyon with a petrol engine together deliver 22 mpg. City fuel-economy numbers for the three tops at 20 mpg.
The Jeep Gladiator 2020, a medium-sized pick-up scheduled to reach showrooms in the second half of 2019, has not yet been reviewed.
The four-wheel drive Ranger gets EPA estimated ratings of 20 mpg city / 24 highway / 22 combined. The city and the combined figures are also the best of any medium-sized middle saddle with petrol engine, Ford says.
The automaker started building Rangers at its Michigan assembly plant in October, after seven years of absence from the American Ford, the Ford says the vehicle will be available nationwide in January.
Ford positions the Ranger as a lifestyle vehicle for customers who want to take it off-road to the beach or campsite and offers roughly 150 aftermarket parts and accessories through Yakima.
The Ranger starts at $ 25,395, including shipping, and reaches over $ 40,000. The turbocharged, 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine of the vehicle will be able to pull and transport more than the V-6 petrol offers from GM and Toyota, Ford says.
