Mercedes-Benz EQS Hyperscreen tries to make the whole dash a screen

We knew from spy footage that the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric flagship sedan would have a seriously large infotainment display. But what we saw was actually the small one. Ahead of the virtual Consumer Electronics Show, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the optional Hyperscreen infotainment system, and as you can see, it’s a lot.

Rather than having a large tablet screen in the center, the Hyperscreen tries to turn the entire dashboard into one screen. It consists of what appears to be three separate screens under one curved panel 56 inches wide and powered by an eight-core CPU with 24 gigabytes of RAM. The screens themselves are OLED units like those found in the Cadillac Escalade, and they have haptic feedback actuators. In front of the driver is the instrument panel, the main infotainment is in the center and there is a third passenger display, similar to the layout shown in the Jeep Grand Wagoneer concept. This third display can be a design accent or provide entertainment for the passenger.

While the screens are impressive, they are only part of the Hyperscreen package. Mercedes is also working on a new AI system designed to make navigating this continent of pixels easier. It is designed to learn your most used functions and applications as well as when and how to use them. It will then present and propose these functions at those times. So if you call someone at a similar time, you will be asked at that point if you want to do so. If you activate certain settings for climate and seat heating on cold days, they will be suggested.

Pricing for the Hyperscreen has not been disclosed, which is understandable as prices for the car it is going to are also not yet available. And if you’re not interested in your dashboard turning into a giant screen, it looks like the regular EQS will have a more modest offering.
